Potential for the tourism development in Nepal

Travel and Tourism is the vehicle to discovery, social and economic integration and the
interconnection of the world. It is all known that tourism as the fastest growing industry
with a high potential for the economic strength of any country. Nepal has a lot to
offer in terms of tourism; however the country has continued to rely on the t
raditional and limited resources and markets to grow the industry. Product diversification
and creation of new markets are the keys to the growth of Nepalese tourism.
Recently, the government of Nepal has announced Visit Nepal year 2011 with the aim of
attracting one million international visitors. This number seems pretty ambitious because
during a similar campaign in 1998, Nepal hosted only 464,000 tourists, earning
US$ 24.8 million in revenue. However, we all need to support Visit Nepal Year 2011
campaign to strengthen a tourism in Nepal.

In this scenario, what is the potential for the tourism in Nepal? How can Association of
the Nepalis in the Americas(ANA)
help in this nationwide campaign of Visit Nepal Y
ear 2011? Time has come again. Whatever we can do for Nepal that makes a difference.
Every our efforts will be a great help for Nepal. Always, we need to grow together. B
y understanding this truth, ANA has set the following objectives for the tourism development
in Nepal:

  • Promote Nepal as a desirable tourist destination by networking with Ministry of Tourism,
Nepal Tourism Board & Nepalese Embassy in Washington, DC.
  • Build Visit Nepal as the strongest brand name in North America.
  • Work together with the tourism entrepreneurs in US and abroad.
  • Encourage Nepali American travel entrepreneurs in North America & working together for
    greater collective goal.
  • Provide updated, accurate and extensive information on Nepal with the help of Nepalese
Embassy in US & Nepal Tourism Board.

ANA has also formed a committee to implement above objectives with these
volunteers:

1. Usha Lama - Third Eye Travel, Fremont, CA

2. Govind Shahi, Himalayan Tresures & Travels, Pinole, CA

3. Becky Harrison, Adventuroustrekker.com, Bartlett, NH

HELP HAITI

BANA

Appeal to Donate Directly via Embassy of  HAITI

Dear All,

We appeal for you to step up and help the earthquake devastated Haiti in this time of great tragedy. There are many ways our community can contribute through various channels because no amount of effort will be enough.

Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America (BANA), www.banaonline.org with support from ANA Executive Board members representing local organizations all over North America and ANA Emergency Help program, request all our community members and leaders of the community to come forward and join with us to support and donate to raise the fund. All transactions will be transparent through ANA Emergency Help program similar to many efforts over the last several years starting with funds for Nepali victims in Iraq in 2004.

We are going to handover all the amount you have donated directly to the Haitian people through H.E. Ambassador Raymond A. Joseph at the Haitian Embassy, Washington, DC on February 9, 2010. Handover program has been set.

There are two ways to donate:

1.      Online via http://www.BANAonline.org

2.      Sending check to:

BANA

322 N Charles St,

Baltimore, MD-21201-4302

If you would like to contribute directly to the Haitian people, and have already made donations via various Nepali community organizations write to us indicating your pledge and we will work together to get it done. Please write to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to coordinate our efforts.

We feel it is best to donate money for Haiti as former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have said. We feel time and speed is of essence and the fastest way to get the money to the Haitian people is through the Embassy.

You can continue to contribute via many charities of your choice but this is the only time Nepalis in Americas are going to directly handover donation to the Haitian people.

Please show how big a heart Nepalis, Nepali Americans, and Friends of Nepal have by contributing and pooling funds.

Thank you.

Academy of Nepali Literature

Message from Academy of Nepali Literature, North America

Fellow community members of North America,

Despite the richness and gravitas of the beautiful Nepali language, it has yet to come upon the world stage.

The preservation and promotion of Nepali language has never been restricted by geographical boundary, as shown in history by Nepalis in India.

In the North America we are lucky to have commemoration and awareness of Nepali language. Now the time is ripe to leap frog our achievements. Hence, we present the Academy of Nepali Literature.

ANA, the only nationally democratically elected Nepali organization of North America has embarked on a new epoch building on its 27 year history. Academy of Nepali Literature is an autonomous functional program affiliated with ANA and designed to work with local organizations all over North America.

It is imperative the rest of this announcement be in Nepali.  Please write to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with any questions.
