Nepali educational and cultural center

Dear Community Members and well wishers,

As we march into another new year, we want to apprise you all with the strides made by the Nepal Education and Cultural Center (NECC) in the last year. As you all know, leaders of ANA came up with a vision to establish a Nepali Cultural Center, and initiated it first in the Washington DC Metro area, back in the 1990s The dream was to form a center where people could congregate to celebrate social and religious occasions, a place where news and information could be exchanged, a place to welcome and help new immigrants, a place where preservation of Nepali language, music, art and culture would persevere and flourish.

Media Club

Dear Community Members,

The Nepali Community in America is going through change.  We are slowly emerging as a diversified yet unified voice. So it is the call of the time to coordinate and promote community wide interests. Independent journalism has been active in North America for many years now and has a crucial role in our community.

The time is now ripe for media to focus on coordinating and promoting positive aspects of our community.

Therefore we are pleased to announce the formation, in keeping with the spirit and objectives of the national platform organization Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA),

The Media Club will be a Functional Program that will coordinate and focus on positive news and other aspects of the community. It will seek to promote good work of individuals, groups, and organizations of the Nepali Diaspora. It will be an autonomous entity within ANA and affiliated with all the local and regional organizations through it.

We will collect the achievements gained by Nepali in North America and highlight through different media - print, web, radio and TV with one overarching goal of making Nepali Community strong in North America. We will seek to make this become professional and act as a conduit whenever necessary with the mainstream media in North America. It is important for the community to reinforce positive developments internally and accentuate it externally to the mass media and general population. The time has come.

Following are the initial members of the Media Club, all of whom have made positive impacts in the society and are practicing accomplished journalists.

Introducing Association of Nepali Youth in America

The Association of Nepali Youth in America (ANYA) is the youth wing of ANA that focuses on Nepali youth community enrichment in the United States and Canada.  The objective and vision of our youth group is to create a sense of community in the Nepali youth Diaspora in America through community activities/ recreational projects and events. Essentially, we want the Nepali youth in America to feel the sense of strong community we have and are capable of having. In addition, we want to create a platform for Nepali youth in America to make a difference in their community as well as in Nepal. We focus on projects in Nepal every year that the ANYA members can participate in; therefore, they have a sense of community here by coming together to make a difference in Nepal.

Our core objectives are:

  • Coordinate activities of people of Nepali origin in High Schools and Undergraduate Colleges in U.S. and Canada
  • Promote volunteerism within the Diaspora for the 2nd and 3rd generation of Nepalis.
  • Focus on specific project to help Nepal and Nepalis in North America
  • Serve as a bridge to continue the proud heritage of Nepal in North America for future generations
  • Establish the network of young people of Nepali origin for mutual benefit

ANYA – Current

ANYA is an emerging youth group founded by a few high school/undergraduate students. We have vision, we have a plan, but what we really need is more members.

Our immediate projects are:

  • Promote ANA’s national partnership with US Census bureau by providing information, conducting training where possible, and making sure that ALL people of Nepali origin and NRNs get counted in the upcoming census.
  • Get participation from organizations in the ANA Executive Board for ANYA

How to become an ANYA member:

Anyone from the Nepali Diaspora currently enrolled in high school and undergraduate  program in the US and Canada is an ANYA target member. We are still growing. Join us our facebook group and we will keep you updated on ANYA projects and events: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=229908410710&ref=ts
